The Senior Support Worker plays a crucial role in leading shifts, supporting the Registered Manager, and ensuring the consistent delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred care. This role bridges the gap between frontline support workers and management, ensuring young people’s needs are met, safeguarding responsibilities are upheld, and the home operates in line with regulations and best practice.

- Support the Registered Manager in rota planning, staff induction, and performance monitoring.
Safeguarding & Protection (Regulation 5)
- Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) where required, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Ensure all safeguarding procedures are followed, including reporting to LADO, police, and placing authority where necessary.
- Lead on risk assessments for young people, updating and reviewing regularly.
- Manage incidents, allegations, or complaints during shifts, ensuring accurate recording and timely escalation.
Young People’s Support (Regulation 7)
- Oversee the development and implementation of Support Plans in line with assessments and care plans.
- Promote independence by encouraging young people to engage in education, training, employment, and life skills (budgeting, cooking, self-care).
- Support young people in managing risks such as CSE, CCE, substance misuse, and mental health.
- Ensure young people are involved in decisions about their lives and the service.
- Champion equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of care.
Accommodation & Safety (Regulation 6)
- Carry out and oversee health & safety checks, fire drills, and premises inspections.
- Ensure accommodation is maintained to a safe and high standard, escalating repairs promptly.
- Promote respect for privacy, dignity, and cultural needs of young people.
Leadership & Management Standard (Regulation 4)
- Assist with preparing, updating, and embedding the Statement of Purpose.
- Contribute to service audits, governance processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant record-keeping (daily logs, incident reports, safeguarding records).
- Liaise with professionals (social workers, police, education providers, health services) to support multi-agency working.
- Notify the Registered Manager of any incidents that require Ofsted or placing authority notification.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 in Health and Social Care (Children & Young People) or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with young people in care or supported accommodation.
